This is a war in education,and no one would escape!

In 2013 former US president Obama encouraged students in USA to learn programming, and started waves of STEAM learning and maker education from primary schools to high schools across the USA. Ever since then, more than 5 million students had learned programming.

In 2014, Britain introduced compulsory computer science and programming on the school curriculum for all children aged 5 to 16. By the age of seven, all children will now be expected to be capable of writing and debugging a simple program. By 11, some will be exploring computing concepts once considered appropriate for undergraduates. Young British students not only play games, but also are capable of creating games via programming.

Since 2012, primary and middle school students in Japan have been required to take programming classes as part of the engineering-home economics subject. As a result, Japanese primary school students surprised the whole world in a worldwide software competition in 2015. Starting in 2020, computer programming will be made a compulsory subject in the Japanese primary schools. It will be followed by the implementation in middle schools in 2021 and high schools in 2022.

Although China has yet to add programming to the national school curriculum, many local governments have already adopted reformed programming curriculum into their compulsory education system. Every year more than hundreds of thousands of primary and secondary school students are participating in various kinds of public and private programming courses. STEAM learning and maker education is heating up the education competition in the country.

From Italy to Singapore, leaders are figuring out how to incorporate computer work into its national education system. It's very likely that programming will be a subject in O-level examination in 2 to 4 years' time in Singapore.
